OBSCURA Festival of Photography is a celebration of our Asian identity in an increasingly globalised world. 2013 marks the inaugural OBSCURA Festival, hosting the world’s most prominent photographers and curators. PHOTOBOOK LIBRARY

This project is at once a photobook exhibition and a community photobook library with the aim of bringing the magic and wonder of photography books to the public as well as a space where profesionals and amateur photoraphers can look at what other photographers have been up to around Asia and the globe. There will be a host of impromptu talks and mini photobook workshops which are also scheduled to take place. This photobook project is managed by BUKU FOTO and will feature books from the Asia-Pacific Photobook Archive, Reminders Photography Stronghold, Asphalt Magazine, T&G Publishing and many more.

THE PINHOLE CAMERA PROJECT

The pinhole camera project is a project hosted by Ecocentric Transitions. Its a project that works with school children from the community to build public pinhole cameras through the use of recycled and found items. The project is at once designed to introduce the wonders of the box camera through the building of it as well as to impart ethical ideas on recycling, conservation while building the leadership, confidence, inter-personal skills and communication abilities of our young partners.

MASTERCLASSES AND WORKSHOPS

OBSCURA Festival Workshops Series features some of the world’s most prominent photographers teaching together in Malaysia for the first time. The programmes are catered to both amateur and professional photographers who want to seriously improve their visual journalism. The programmes are a mix of in-class time, group discussions, 1 on 1 reviews and editing work. Students benefit from the wealth of knowledge and experience their mentors bring to the classroom as well as working with their peers.
