Traveling with punk bands in US and Europe.

Being on the road, going to different cities and towns, meeting different people, and sleeping and eating in different situation every day, there are many things that can happen when spending life on the road. Days of recurring events and unpredictable coincidences.  Time can pass by slowly but at same time, be too fast to follow. Fear and joy, expansion and contraction. Push, Pull, I return.

Hiro Tanaka was born and raised in Japan and had lived in the USA for several years. Winning a free trip from a raffle ticket at a shopping mall in Tokyo would lead to him travelling in vans with punk bands across the US and Europe. Getting his first camera from one of the band members during a tour, je started taking photographs and learnt much about life while being on the road. He participated in the Koji Onaka photography workshop in Tokyo, and was selected as a winner for Cosmos Arles PDF Award: France, ShainBook Award: France, YET#11: Switzerland, TPD Book Award: Italy, selected as finalist and shortlisted for several awards including the Kassel Photobook Award, Kassel Dummy Award, Kolga Award, Daylight Photo Award, and more. Participated in residency program in Denmark, Latvia, USA, received several grants, and in exhibitions at international photo festivals.
