CURATORIAL THEME FOR THE 2019 FESTIVAL

SUBCULTURE

SUBMISSION DEADLINE
- 28 FEBRUARY 2019 -

OBSCURA Festival of Photography 2019 invites photographers, curators, editors, academicians, cultural practitioners and individuals in the social sciences to submit photographic works that examine the philosophical, anthropological, ethnographic, historic, political and artistic sphere on the theme, SUBCULTURE through the processes of journalism, fine art, conceptual, archival, research and scientific photographic practises.

The theme is an attempt to explore the multitude of nuances in which we perceive the world through and build our understanding of our place in it. Through the theme we aim to come to a greater understanding and appreciation about our differences and conflicts. Through this journey, we hope to find a way toward a greater understanding and empathy.

Selected works will be exhibited as prints and multimedia projections at OBSCURA Festival of Photography in August 2019 as part of a celebration of the important role the photographic medium has played in the understanding of human existence and the psyche.
